The Chapel

Approached by the new owners of a brick and flint redundant Methodist Chapel in rural Wilthsire to re-imagine the property as an executive residence and bolt hole from the City of London, our design approach was to give the structure a contemporary twist whilst retaining and celebrating its Victorian heritage and character. Internally, plaster finishes were removed to expose rustic surfaces which were to serve as a textural contrast to the modern interior treatments.

To the upper level of the Chapel's volume, a new floor is inserted with rooms accessed via a top lit atrium space. Perhaps the most dramatic addition, however, is the new entry rotunda creating a semi-private./semi-public welcome to the home.
