Wren
As a traditional thatched cottage in an historic and rural location - whilst the aims for Wren were to retain and enhance the existing character - it was also important that the new proposals seek to introduce a more transparent and visually lightweight feel, both as a contrast to the original dwelling and as a means for maximising light infiltration to the existing interior.
The design approach adopted was to create a new winsgle storey volume long the full width of the original farmhouse, optimising the planning potential under Permitted Development guidelines, As cn be seen from the images below this accommodated open, free flowing Kitchen/Dining and Family spaces viewing and relating to the gardens with dramatic roof apertures flooding the new interiors.
