Register Office

Whilst lead Architect for the council at Blackpool, I was seconded into the Estates and Redevelopment Teams to support the authority's aspirations to welcome and attract inward investment to upgrade existing existing public buildings and services. The existing Register Office was a somewhat tired and uninspiring 1960's building with little character and no sense of presence or calm.

The proposals developed reflected the "circle of life" from birth through to death and the building's role in celebrating /marking and registering these events and milestones. Designed in a spiral form, the aspiration being simply to soften the edges of the path through life, making each stage part of a smooth and developing journey. Whilst not realised in this form (or within the location of Stanley Park) it did provide the initial catalyst to council and government funding for a new landmark structure on the seafront by dRMM Architects in 2012.
