Narrow Lane
Situated on the outskirts of the market town of Ringwood, Narrow Lane was a new build property proposed for a side garden 'brownfield' development on the side of a bridle path heading towards the common. Its position on the edge of the New Forest National Park further enhanced the sensitivity of the plot and design.

Consequently, the initial appearance reflected in the RiB ARCHITECTURE proposal is one of a traditional gable fronted dwelling with materials comprising red brick, oak boarding and traditional slate to the roof.

The twist came in the split level nature of the design which takes advantage of the substantial drop in levels between the front of the plot (adjacent to the bridlepath) and the end of the garden to the rear. As can be seen in images 2 and 3, this leads to a sense of drama as it addresses the rear amenity - giving a more contemporary feel 'hidden' from the front.
