Mill Cottage
On the face of it, the challenge facing RiB ARCHITECTURE at Mill Cottage could be considered relatively simple and straightforward. Provide a large 3 car garage for a classic car dealer and entusiast within the confines of extensive rear gardens. However, Mill Cottage resided within a local Conservation Area and the gardens to be used were within a SSSI. Futher, bordering the garden was a main local river with otters in residence! The area was therefore a potential high risk site for flooding and consequent environmental damage.
Use of 3D modelling became extremely important in the success of the submission within this context. From a planning perspective, we were able to show little (if any) negative impact upon the Conservation Area - in particular as viewed from the adjacent lane which was very popular with local walkers and visitors to the area. From the environmental viewpoint, we were able to integrate volumetric modeling to confirm the maximum 1 in 100 year event and agree preparations for the land to accommodate.
