Milton Abbey School Cricket Nets
A fundamental part of the educational experience is formed by the sports provision and excellence of facilities - whether this be via first hand participation or as spectator(s). With a location for its cricket pitch immediate to the side of the main Mansion House (and within the Grade 1 Capability Brown landscape), the pitch is often ranked within the Top 10 in the UK.
However, the beauty and importance of this location clearly also represented design and presentational challenges. Early and ongoing engagement with the LPA and Historic England was facilitated by the positive approach taken by these bodies - further aided by the use of 3D modelling to illustrate the varying initial options before reaching agreement on the final solution reflected in the images below.
The result being a lightweight construction (both physically and visually) which - via its preferred location on the reduced level of the old (long gone) outdoor pool - nestles into the landscape without harmful impact upon view to or from the Mansion House and grounds.
